About me

Hello!

I decided to start this blog as a way to chronicle my own experience with weight loss and wellness as well as discuss what I've learned along the way. I wanted my first post to be about my journey; the how, the why, and what that has comprised my success so far.

My journey began in December of 2017. I have been aware for a long time that I was overweight. I had tried to start working out or eating healthier, but I just couldn't get my life together and really make the change. Below is the picture of my family and me and Thanksgiving 2017...

I remember seeing myself and thinking, "Holy F!". I knew I was fat but DAMN. I weighed in at 280 pounds at the time of this picture. 130 pounds heavier than when I began college in 2011. For most of my life, I was not overweight. In fact, up until 5 years ago, I was not overweight. So what happened? Well... life happened.

Growing up, I was so blessed to have a mom that would cook dinner for use every night. Eating healthy was the only option in our household. As I grew older, I focused more on school and became less involved in physical activity. I never really got into fitness because I never saw myself as unhealthy. And there was problem number one.

The last two years have been focused on learning: about myself, about health, and how to continue to be better. I graduated this past July with my Masters in Public Health with emphasis in Health Education and Promotion. I spend my days as a health educator working with people to help them manage their chronic disease. I love researching new recipes, health topics and trends, and understanding health as it changes.

Let's see where this journey takes me!
