Accountability and Encouragement
Happy new year everyone!
As I reflect on how the new year brings resolutions, I began to think about all the previous years that my good intentions turned into failed goals. And for most Americans, New Years resolutions are already put the window by the second or third week of January. So how can we change this?
Firstly, we must create an environment where we can hold ourselves accountable... and this is no easy task. In order to be accountable we have to firs understand our ‘why’. Many times we set goals and resolutions at face value. Simply saying “I want to lose weight” is not enough to make it happen. Do you want to lose weight to feel healthier? To have not energy? To build self-cofnfidence? We must truly dig deep to understand this.
One of my favorite quotes is “A goal without a plan is just a dream”. I believe this whole-heartedly. Having a a plan is the only way to ensure you’re taking action. In a future post I’ll discuss SMART goals and how to set them.
Lastly, find your support system and seek out their help. It’s never easy to go through it alone. In fact, for many people, lack of support is a key factor in why they aren’t able to achieve their goals.
You don’t have to wait for a certain day of the year to roll around to get started. Your journey starts when you’re ready.
